BEAUTIFUL – A PERFORMANCE ART PROJECT ON SUSTAINABILITY AND CONNECTIONS
Beautiful is the title of two performance art projects that explore sustainability and human connections to the environment. The works, THE WAY and YOU AND I, are site-specific, nomadic performances developed in collaboration with several communities across Iceland in 2025.
THE WAY is a performative pilgrimage that examines the journey as a form and a means of transformation.
YOU AND I consists of staged encounters with the more-than-human—plants, animals, natural phenomena, and man-made objects—seeking to deepen our understanding of relationships beyond the human world.
Both projects are rooted in participation and experience, utilizing performance to activate awareness and deepen the bond between humans and their surroundings.
In a world where climate change and societal division threaten the future, the role of performance art is crucial. While contemporary challenges demand radical systemic changes, art has the power to awaken awareness and strengthen our connection to the world—whether through relationships with other people or with nature itself.
Creating change requires more than identifying the problem; it demands finding a reason to act. That reason is love and connection: love for future generations who will inherit the Earth and love for the more-than-human—mountains, streams, birds, and flowers. We do everything for love, and the word beautiful is a magic spell that transforms despair into action.
Disconnection, isolation, and echo chambers weaken humanity’s ability to unite and respond. This is where performance art plays a decisive role—it creates space for new perspectives, strengthens solidarity, and activates personal values. Transformative art touches our sense of identity and evokes emotions that lead to action. To drive change, people must know what they stand for—and engage their muscle of love.
Beautiful is art that strengthens connections—art that sparks action.
